The online global MATUL enables North American workers overseas to study while ministering, remaining in their place of productivity on the field, and meeting weekly online with students from other cities like Bangkok, Chennai, or Manila in a globally interactive cohort.

Students need to be with a mission that provides pastoral care, be working and living in or near a poor community, and have good internet access and be willing to carve out ten hours per week for each course.

The program begins with Urban Spirituality and a Biblical Theology in an Urban Context, then has two courses training folks in principles of language learning while they are involved in a language school or community immersion language process on the field. Building Faith Communities and Community Transformation courses anchor the multiple internships in areas of Establishing Slum Schools, Working with the Marginalized, Advocacy and Land Rights, Community Health Care, and Community Economics.  These give a foundational understanding of Entrepreneurial Leadership and feed into the Movement Leadership courses. The courses on Synoptic Gospels and Contextual Theology expand the theological base which makes up 1/3 of each contextual course.  All this is wrapped up into a two semester research process in partnership with one of the organizations.

For North American students, the hybrid North American MATUL program enables  leaders among the marginalized communities within US cities to reflect in depth on the complex issues they are engaging daily. We are in process of changing to a new US partner school for next spring. If you have an interest please email us at admin@urbanleaders.org
